The Polymer Research Center at Basra University, in cooperation with the Basra Environment Directorate, organized a workshop on oil pollution. The workshop aimed to support sustainable research and plans to rid water of oil pollutants and protect the biodiversity of living organisms. The workshop, presented by Dr. Aqeel Mohsen Ali and Dr. Hekmat Abdul Rahim Ali, addressed the definition of the environment, the concept of pollution, and the levels of pollution risks. It also focused on the problems of oil pollution in seawater, rivers, lakes, and groundwater. Various treatment methods and means of disposing of various oil spills were reviewed. Finally, important recommendations regarding strategic planning for addressing oil pollution were presented.
