On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, a distinguished scientific lecture was held as part of the extended environmental awareness seminar series organized by the Polymer Research Center – University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Basra Environment Directorate, under the slogan: "No to illegal immigration… Your dignity is in your homeland." The lecture was titled: "Advances in Nanocomposite Materials: Toward a Cleaner Water Future for Basrah" and was delivered by Dr. Einas Abdulaziz Abood Al-Nasir, a specialist in chemistry and nanotechnology. The presentation highlighted the major water challenges facing Basra Governorate, including:
-High salinity levels due to seawater intrusion.
-Industrial, agricultural, and wastewater pollution.
-Limited efficiency of conventional water treatment technologies.
Dr. Einas proposed a set of innovative solutions based on nanotechnology, focusing on:
-The role of nanocomposites in removing heavy metals and organic pollutants.
-The use of multi-functional nanofiltration systems.
-Future applications tailored for Basra’s environment, such as: magnetic filters, graphene-enhanced membranes, and smart water management systems.
The session concluded with an open discussion involving researchers and specialists, who emphasized the importance of implementing these solutions in local pilot projects and integrating them into water management policies.
