A thesis of MSc at the University of Basrah examines the diagnostic methods for Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF)
The thesis of MSc at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah examined a diagnostic study of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) infection in small ruminants in the southern governorates.
The thesis, prepared by student Dhu al-Fiqar Hussein Ali, aimed to assess the levels of antibody against the CCHF virus in Wasit and Maysan governorates.
The study encompasses an epidemiological study of the disease, carrying out serological and molecular tests on samples, and A Complete Blood Count (CBC) to study changes were associated with infection. The tick samples, the primary vector for the disease transmission in humans and animals gathered from the areas covered by the study were also identified, revealing the presence of several species belonging to the genus of Hyalomma spp., the most predominate for the disease.
The thesis concluded that Wasit and Maysan governorates are considered as endemic areas for CCHF, and the age factor is directly influence on disease frequency, demonstrating that older animals are highly vulnerable to the infection than younger animals.
