The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Life Sciences, has researched a doctoral thesis on (Evaluation of the effectiveness of some plant compounds against multi-resistant bacteria isolated from patients in some hospitals in Basra Governorate). The thesis presented by the researcher (Mohammed Adnan Mohammed) included bacteria responsible for causing a wide range of severe opportunistic infections in hospitals around the world. The current study aimed to isolate and identify Acinetobacter baumannii bacteria that are multi-resistant to antibiotics from samples collected from patients admitted to hospitals and to test the effectiveness of the aqueous and alcoholic extract of wormwood and pomegranate peels. The results of the current study showed the effectiveness of the alcoholic and aqueous extract of wormwood and pomegranate peels against the bacteria under study, as it showed 100% antibacterial activity against the bacterial isolates under study. There is also a significant difference between the effectiveness of the aqueous and alcoholic extract of wormwood and pomegranate plants against the bacteria under study at a significance level of P≤0.05. The current study concluded that: Each of Wormwood and pomegranate peels contain active compounds that make them effective against the multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii bacteria. These compounds were obtained and identified through aqueous and alcoholic extracts and GCMS techniques. The current study recommended exploiting the active compounds identified in this study and attempting to isolate and prepare them by specialists to produce antibiotics capable of eliminating multidrug-resistant bacterial strains
