A master's thesis in the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra investigated the effect of adding different levels of bentonite to bedding on some productive and physiological traits and the economic feasibility of broiler chickens.
The thesis, presented by student Mohammed Nazim Rahim Al-Abbadi, aimed to investigate the effect of adding different levels of bentonite to bedding on some productive and physiological traits and the economic feasibility of broiler chickens.
The thesis included the use of untreated wood shavings as a control. In the second treatment, 150 g/m² of bentonite was added to the sawdust bedding. In the third treatment, 250 g/m² of bentonite was added to the sawdust bedding. In the fourth treatment, 350 g/m² of bentonite was added to the sawdust bedding. In the fifth treatment, 450 g/m² of bentonite was added to the sawdust bedding for broiler chickens.
The study concluded that adding bentonite to broiler litter, particularly at a level of 450 g/m², resulted in a significant improvement in live weight rates, weekly and cumulative weight gain, and higher rates of weekly and cumulative feed consumption.
