The Colleges of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University have set up a medical unit along the road connecting Samawah and Nasiriyah to provide healthcare and medical services to pilgrims walking on foot for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
Dr. Jubran Khalil Hassan, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, stated: “In an initiative regarded as important by the pilgrims, a group of professors and staff members from the Colleges of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University established a medical unit on the road between the Al-Batha area and the holy city of Karbala to offer medical services to the Arbaeen pilgrims.”
Dr. Jubran added: “The unit was established through the efforts of Dr. Falah Hassan Shari, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Maqal University, and the staff of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah. Our team also included female staff members to attend to women’s medical needs. We provided services to pilgrims and mourners, including the provision of medicines and medical supplies such as crutches and back supports, as well as blood glucose monitors and blood pressure devices — everything a pilgrim might need on their journey — all funded independently.”
It is worth noting that this initiative by the Colleges of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah and Al-Maqal University is held annually on the occasion of Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) as part of their volunteer activities in community service.
