A doctoral thesis in the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra investigated the genetic variations of the leptin and ghrelin receptor genes and their relationship to the growth and physiological parameters of Iraqi goats fed different ratios of roughage.
The thesis of student Murtadha Karim Muhammad aimed to study the physiological characteristics of some metabolic hormone concentrations, particularly leptin and ghrelin, and some biochemical parameters of goats.
The thesis included feeding animals rations with different ratios of concentrated feed and hay, depending on the ratios used, and exploring the genetic variations of the studied genes.
The thesis identified two new genetic variations for both the ghrelin receptor and the leptin receptor gene in Iraqi goats.
