A doctoral thesis at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra examined the assessment of wind erosion severity in Basra Governorate and the role of soil conditioners in the effectiveness of plant windbreaks.
The thesis, presented by researcher Najwa Rahim Saeed, aimed to study the effect of adding compost, polymer, and mixed soil conditioners on some physical and chemical soil properties and growth indicators of eucalyptus plants planted as windbreaks.
The thesis included selecting six different locations in Basra Governorate as study stations for installing sand traps. The results showed that adding compost and polymer soil conditioners significantly increased the growth indicators of eucalyptus plants as windbreaks.
The thesis recommended the adoption of organic and polymer soil conditioners in desertification control and plant windbreak construction projects, as they have proven effective in improving soil quality and enhancing the protective vegetation cover.
