The thesis, submitted by researcher Sabreen Karim Al-Shuwaili in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, aimed to identify the evaluation of teacher preparation programs in colleges of education in light of the dimensions of sustainable development from the perspective of faculty members. It also aimed to identify differences in the evaluation of teacher preparation programs in colleges of education in light of the dimensions of sustainable development according to the variable of specialization (humanities, science).
The thesis recommended reviewing and updating teacher preparation programs to align with the requirements of sustainable development, with a focus on enhancing the environmental and economic dimensions, along with the social dimension. It also recommended clearly integrating sustainability concepts into objectives and curricula, while empowering stakeholders to implement them using effective educational methods. It also recommended developing professional training programs for faculty members to enhance their competencies in integrating sustainability into the university education process. It also recommended developing standard evaluation indicators to measure the extent to which the dimensions of sustainable development are achieved in educational programs and practices. It also recommended enhancing cooperation between colleges of education and institutions involved in sustainability, with the aim of exchanging expertise and developing curricula to keep pace with local and global challenges. This study was based on the fact that sustainable development is no longer just a theoretical concept or a global slogan. Rather, it has become a fundamental requirement that must be reflected in educational curricula and programs, including teacher preparation programs. Teachers are the primary driver of any educational development process, and any shortcomings in their preparation will negatively impact the quality of education.
