Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulrahman Faleh Hassan, a lecturer at the College of Dentistry at the University of Basra, served as a member and supervisor of Zahraa Hafez Ahmed's master's thesis, entitled:
"Radiation Regulation of Drinking and Tap Water in Basra Governorate."
The thesis aims to measure gamma radiation levels in drinking and tap water, calculate the equivalent radiation dose, and estimate the lifetime risk of cancer resulting from water consumption in Basra Governorate.
The study results showed that all radiation measurements fall within the permissible limits according to international standards, indicating the absence of radioactive contamination in drinking and tap water within the governorate.
The researcher used the TLD-200 thermoluminescence technique to conduct the measurements, due to its high accuracy in calculating radiation doses.
This study comes within the framework of the scientific and research efforts undertaken by the University of Basra to serve the community by monitoring and observing environmental and health aspects directly related to citizens' lives.
