One of the Marine Science Center's goals is to participate in community service and development by interacting directly and continuously with economic and cultural institutions, and by providing these institutions with scientific and technical advice. This allows the community to benefit from the resources available at the Marine Science Centre.
Dr Mahmoud Shaker Hashim, Assistant Professor and faculty member at the Marine Science Centre at the University of Basra, delivered a scientific lecture titled 'Smart Agriculture to Confront the Challenges Facing the Agricultural Reality' at the Agricultural Extension and Training Department in Basra. Several employees from the Basra Agriculture Directorate, the Basra Veterinary Hospital, the Agricultural Research/Burjesia Research Station, the Environment Department and the Local Union of Agricultural Associations attended the lecture, as did Extension Centre staff.
The lecture covered smart agriculture as a technology-based system designed to enhance the efficiency of agricultural production and optimise resource management in the face of challenges such as climate change, population growth, and environmental degradation. Dr Mahmoud highlighted the technologies used, including smart irrigation systems, precision agriculture and the use of artificial intelligence for monitoring crops and soil.
The lecture aimed to increase crop productivity and quality, reduce water and resource consumption, and improve the ability of agricultural systems to adapt to harsh climatic conditions, thus enhancing food security and supporting sustainability. Marine Science Center Media
