The Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Basra organized a symposium on the role of the media in spreading the culture of human rights, in which the teacher, Dr. Fatima Jassim Mohamed, attended the directors of the Women's Affairs Division and assistant teacher Riyad Hussein Taqi, director of the Legal Division in the presence of the college students, in the context of promoting awareness of the importance of the media in consolidating the principles of human rights.
The symposium dealt with the vital role played by the media in spreading human rights awareness and enhancing the culture of equality and social justice. The symposium also discussed the importance of the media's commitment to professional and ethical standards when dealing with human rights issues, and this was affected in building a more aware society of its rights and duties.
Participants in the symposium emphasized that the media is a powerful tool for spreading the values of tolerance, dialogue and respecting basic freedoms, noting the need to intensify media efforts to convey the facts professionally, and contribute to strengthening a supportive environment for human rights
