A Ph.D thesis at the University of Basrah )The Use of Some Plant Species and Spray with Glutathione in the Phytoremediation of Areas Contaminated with Crude Oil in Basra Governorate( The thesis submitted by the student (Ahmed Razzaq Mohammed Al-Tameemi) included his experiment that carried out in the field of medicinal plants, College of Agriculture, Basra University during period from September 2018 to March 2020 to investigate the tolerance and remediation on two local plants Jerusalem thorn Parkinsonia aculeata L. and sweet acacia Acacia farnesiana (L.) Willd. The experimental measurements were taken in two stages, the first stage after 9 months and the second stage after 18 months of planting. The study reached a percentage of the total remediation of soil contaminated with crude oil using the sweet acacia (84.3%). The study recommended using the plants Jerusalem thorn and sweet acacia to phytoremediation of contaminated soils with crude oil in the conditions of Basrah Governorate and within the concentrations used in the experiment. It also recommended the use of glutathione to increase the plants tolerance to environmental abiotic stress conditions.
