Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab,
the College's Continuing Education Unit organized a scientific symposium on
Applications of Artificial Intelligence: The Positives and Negatives of its Impact on Iraqi Society from the Perspective of University Students.
The symposium featured lectures by Professor Luay Shihab Abdul Wahid, Head of the Basic Medical Sciences Department, and Lecturer Zeina Abdul Satar.
The symposium addressed the definition of artificial intelligence as a technological revolution impacting various aspects of life. It included an explanation of its positive aspects, such as enhancing smart education, developing healthcare, and supporting the agricultural and industrial sectors. It also discussed potential negative aspects, such as technological unemployment, the digital divide, privacy violations, and the development of autonomous weapons. The symposium provided practical recommendations for students regarding the responsible and safe use of modern technologies.
The symposium aimed to raise awareness among Iraqi youth on how to benefit from artificial intelligence while avoiding its risks, and to motivate them to take an active role in building a balanced and secure future for society.
