Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab.
The Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Women's Affairs Unit and the Human Rights Unit, organized a seminar on Human Rights and Elections: A Historical and Legal Study of the Emphasis on the Right to Secret Voting.
The seminar featured lecturers Dr. Fatima Jassim Muhammad, Head of the Human Rights Unit, and Assistant Professor Riyad Hussein Taqi, Director of the College's Legal Division.
The seminar included several topics, most notably a discussion of the right to vote and political participation in international conventions and the Iraqi Constitution, the importance of participation and its impact on society, and the public responsibility to protect the gains of the democratic process.
The researchers stressed that the symposium enhances the awareness of students in general and voters in particular, of the importance of participating in elections and ensuring their readiness, desire and ability to participate in this public participation by providing knowledge of the electoral process and confidence in its suitability and effectiveness in choosing their representatives and supporting programs and demands that would benefit them, as well as motivating students to participate in public decision-making related to their lives.
