A doctoral thesis at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra examined the genetic composition of the two genes and their relationship to phenotypic characterization and genetic diversity in local duck populations.
The thesis, by researcher Hussein Majeed Sharif, aimed to study the composition of local white, gray, and green duck populations, trace their evolutionary history through a mitochondrial gene, and reveal the genetic morphology of the gene and its relationship to feather color.
The study concluded that local ducks exhibit a moderate degree of genetic diversity compared to some duck populations worldwide.
