


University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Symposium on the Water Crisis in Iraq and Its Economic and Environmental Impacts
The College of Administration and Economics in Qurna, under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Adnan Farhan Al-Jourani, organized a scientific symposium entitled “The Water Crisis in Iraq and Its Economic and Environmental Impacts: Causes and Possible Solutions.” The event took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in the main hall of the college.
The symposium was presented by:

The symposium aimed to discuss the water crisis facing Iraq from its various economic and environmental dimensions, analyze its internal and external causes, and propose scientific visions for possible solutions that could contribute to the sustainable management of water resources and the enhancement of the country’s water security.
The speakers also addressed the impact of water scarcity on productive, agricultural, and industrial sectors and its repercussions on the national economy and the environment. They emphasized the importance of adopting sound policies for managing natural resources and encouraging the use of modern technologies in irrigation, treatment, and reuse.
