The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra organized a panel discussion titled "Building Resilience of Cities and the Health System to Disasters Using UNDRR Concepts." The panel discussion was presented by Dr. Ahmed Hanoun Jassim from the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Southern Region, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in the conference hall.
The panel discussed the importance of building the resilience of cities and the health system to disasters and preserving a sustainable environment, as it is a fundamental pillar for ensuring continuity in the face of challenges. It highlighted the need to achieve a balance between economic development and the protection of natural resources in a way that contributes to enhancing the sustainability of ecosystems. It also reviewed the concepts of risk management and how to apply them in the context of promoting sustainability.
The panel aimed to raise awareness among attendees about the environment and enhance cooperation between institutions. The lecturer recommended developing comprehensive strategies to raise public awareness and stimulate research in this field to ensure a more sustainable future.
