Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab.
The Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Scientific Incubator Unit, in partnership with the Media and Government Communication Division, and in collaboration with the Directorate of Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances in Basra Governorate, organized an awareness and educational seminar on Sunday, October 19, 2025, entitled "Awareness of the Dangers of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and Their Negative Effects on University Students." Under the slogan "With Science and Knowledge, We Combat Drugs," the seminar was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Abdul Qader, Head of the Community Health Branch. The seminar was presented by the Director of the Media Division at the Directorate of Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, Brigadier General Humam Majeed Abdul Aoun, Colonel Ali Mohsen, Dr. Engineer Saddam Abdul Amir, and Commissioner Majid Ghanem.
The seminar covered comprehensive topics on the types of drugs, their effects on individuals and society, and ways to prevent them. It also reviewed the psychological and social effects resulting from drug abuse and discussed the topics. Scientific and educational methods are being used to reduce this phenomenon, emphasizing the need for community solidarity to combat it.
This symposium is part of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra's efforts to raise community awareness and spread health culture among students and members of the community. By organizing such events, the college seeks to highlight issues that threaten the safety and health of individuals and emphasize the importance of joint cooperation between academic institutions and security agencies to provide an environment free of destructive societal ills, contributing to building a safer and more stable future.
