Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab,
the Continuing Education Unit and the Women's Affairs Unit organized a symposium on human rights violations: Past and Present. Lecturers included Dr. Fatima Jassim Muhammad, Head of the Women's Affairs Unit, and Assistant Professor Riyad Hussein Taqi, Director of the College's Legal Division.
The symposium addressed human rights violations from the past to the present, the evolution of these violations, and how they have shifted from physical methods such as torture to complex violations encompassing economic, social, and cultural rights, such as forced eviction and environmental pollution, and emerging challenges such as discrimination and poverty. The symposium focused on understanding the nature of violations over time and how preventing them and preserving human dignity has become a global priority for conflict prevention and promoting peace.
