The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized a scientific lecture on the topic of sleep disorders and their impact on human health and quality of life, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit. This lecture is part of its scientific and cultural program aimed at raising health awareness among students and faculty.
The lecture, delivered by Assistant Professor Hanaa Khazal Jaber, included a review of the most common types of sleep disorders, such as insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy. It also discussed their causes related to psychological stress, environmental factors, and unhealthy daily habits.
The lecture also addressed diagnostic symptoms and approved treatment methods based on recent medical research.
The lecture aimed to enhance health awareness among participants and highlight the dangers of neglecting sleep disorders in the long term, given the chronic health problems they cause, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes, as well as their impact on mental abilities, concentration, and daily productivity.
The lecturer highlighted the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent these disorders, including regulating sleep times, avoiding stimulants before bedtime, providing a comfortable and calm environment, and consulting specialists when symptoms recur. She also emphasized the need to integrate these topics into university awareness programs.
At the conclusion of the lecture, a discussion and questions were opened, with attendees sharing their opinions and inquiries, emphasizing the importance of such scientific activities in spreading health awareness and enhancing students' cognitive and research skills.
