
Twenty-one Iraqi universities achieved significant competitive results in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, which analyzes and evaluates the quality of scientific research at global academic institutions.
This ranking (https://open.leidenranking.com/ranking/2025/list) is based on measuring the quality of research output and its impact on the scientific community, using a set of key indicators:
▪️ Percentage of research within the top 10% globally in terms of citations.
▪️ Standardized Citation Score (MNCS).
▪️ Indicators of international scientific collaboration.
▪️ Analysis of research output, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
The ranking results showed the competitive presence of the University of Baghdad, the University of Technology, Al-Mustansiriya University, the University of Babylon, the University of Mosul, the University of Basra, the University of Kufa, the University of Anbar, the University of Al-Nahrain, the University of Sulaimaniyah, the University of Al-Qadisiyah, the University of Karbala, the University of Diyala, the University of Salahaddin in Erbil, the Middle Technical University, the University of Dhi Qar, the University of Duhok, the University of Wasit, the Iraqi University, the University of Kirkuk, and the Polytechnic University of Sulaimaniyah.
