The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on symbiotic bacteria: the hidden weapon in the battle against stored-product pests.
The seminar, presented by lecturer Jinan Malik Khalaf, aimed to explore the role of symbiotic bacteria and the nature of their relationship with stored-product pests. It examined the mechanisms of action of these bacteria and their direct impact on the capabilities of stored-product pests, considering bacteria a crucial factor in understanding the biology of these pests, their ability to adapt and survive, and how this knowledge can be utilized to develop new and innovative control strategies.
The seminar addressed the vital functions of symbiotic bacteria, their transmission mechanisms, and the most common types. The study recommended the use of sustainable and intelligent control methods, leveraging this symbiotic relationship to provide a golden opportunity for developing a new generation of control methods that are more targeted at the pest, less harmful to the environment, and safer than chemical pesticides.
