
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized a scientific lecture entitled “The Potential Therapeutic Role of Phytochemicals Against Alzheimer's Disease.”
The lecturer, Dr. Raed Saad Luti, discussed the definition of Alzheimer's disease and its main causes, while also reviewing the potential therapeutic role of phytochemicals in slowing the disease's progression. He highlighted their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which contribute to protecting nerve cells and improving cognitive functions.
The lecture aimed to shed light on the scientific potential of natural substances in preventing chronic neurological diseases and to encourage researchers to utilize the results of recent studies in developing safe and effective treatments.
The lecturer also addressed the most prominent recent research findings that support the possibility of employing these compounds as supplements or therapeutic alternatives within established pharmaceutical strategies, emphasizing the importance of continuing specialized scientific studies in this vital field. At the end of the lecture, the floor was opened for discussion among attendees, including faculty, students, and staff, and their comments and inquiries were addressed, enriching the session with scientific and practical observations.
