The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, through its Aquaculture Unit, continues its scientific research aimed at producing and cultivating Azolla as a protein-rich alternative forage crop suitable for feeding poultry, livestock, and fish.
This research focuses on applying modern agricultural techniques through practical training that includes establishing and equipping ponds, implementing fertilization and harvesting processes, and preparing extension materials explaining crop care and various uses.
These efforts are part of the College's commitment, under the leadership of Dean Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, to promoting sustainable development and enhancing farmers' efficiency by introducing economically viable crops. This underscores the College's role in transferring knowledge and applying scientific research findings to serve the agricultural sector and achieve national food security.
