Within the framework of international cooperation between the Agricultural Advisory Office at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, and international organizations supporting agricultural development and food security, the office signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to conduct an agricultural value chain analysis study in several agricultural areas of Basra Governorate.
This study aims to analyze the agricultural production and marketing system in all its components, from the production stage in the fields to the final consumer, in order to identify strengths and weaknesses in the value chain and improve the efficiency of agricultural and commercial operations.
The study is being conducted by a specialized scientific team of professors and researchers from the office in cooperation with experts from the World Food Programme, using modern scientific methodologies and advanced field techniques to ensure data accuracy and reliable results.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, emphasized that this project comes within the framework of activating the college's advisory and scientific role in supporting agricultural and economic development plans. He pointed out that cooperation with international organizations such as the WFP enhances the university's position as a research institution capable of providing practical and sustainable scientific solutions.
For his part, the representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) praised the level of academic and professional competence of the experts at the College of Agriculture, stressing that this partnership constitutes an important step towards building a more sustainable agricultural and economic system in southern Iraq.
