The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized an awareness seminar entitled “Drugs and Psychotropic Substances: Between Addiction and Prevention,” as part of its programs aimed at promoting health and behavioral awareness among students and staff.
The seminar aimed to highlight the dangers of drug and psychotropic substance use and its health, psychological, and social effects. It also emphasized the importance of adopting preventative measures to protect young people from falling into addiction, and discussed methods for dealing with cases and reducing the spread of this phenomenon within society and educational institutions.
The seminar was presented by Dr. Shaimaa Fadhil Abbas, a faculty member at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine. She reviewed the most prevalent types of drugs and methods of promoting them, as well as mechanisms for providing psychological and behavioral support to students to help them avoid risky behaviors.
The seminar was attended by a group of faculty members, staff, and students from the college. At the end, a discussion session was held to answer attendees' questions, with an emphasis on continuing to hold such awareness activities in an effort to create a safe university environment free from negative phenomena.
