Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, President of the University of Basra, and the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Muhammad Asghar Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, and in coordination with the ministerial delegation,
the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Basra, organized an awareness seminar on the dangers of drugs and the role of nursing staff. The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Baqir Dawood, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, and Lecturer Dr. Hussein Fakher Kamel, a faculty member at the college, and was attended by a ministerial delegation.
The seminar covered several topics, including an introduction to drugs, their types and classifications, the symptoms of drug use, the health, psychological, social, and economic harms of drugs, the role of family and society in combating drug addiction, and methods of drug prevention.
The seminar aimed to clarify the dangers of drug use on individuals and society, especially among young people, and the need to raise awareness and educate about its dangers and to tighten penalties regarding its trade and use. The seminar recommended the need to spread awareness and culture by holding conferences, seminars and workshops in this field to clarify what drugs and stimulants do to the lives of society and destroy them.
