The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized an awareness lecture entitled “Combating Terrorism and Religious and Sectarian Extremism,” as part of the college’s program aimed at enhancing intellectual awareness and establishing a culture of social peace among students.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Saeed Kadhim Ahmed, addressed the most prominent concepts of extremism and its causes, and how it exploits weak societal awareness. It also reviewed intellectual and behavioral methods that can be used to confront hate speech and intolerance.
The lecture aimed to raise awareness among students about the dangers of terrorism and extremism, promote critical thinking and encourage moderate dialogue, and protect the university environment from extremist ideas while reinforcing the values of citizenship and peaceful coexistence.
At the end of the lecture, a discussion session was held, during which students' questions were answered. The importance of the university’s role in protecting society from deviant ideologies and promoting intellectual security was emphasized.
