The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held a specialized scientific seminar on alkasite and its applications in dentistry, aiming to highlight its importance in treating tooth decay compared to other types of fillings.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Ola Mohammed Abdul Kadhim, addressed the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of this modern material. It highlighted alkasite's ability to release several important ions, including fluoride, calcium, phosphate, and hydroxide ions, when the pH level in the mouth drops below 5.5 due to bacterial activity.
The seminar demonstrated that these ions reduce the effects of bacteria and promote tooth remineralization, making alkasite an effective option for treating decay and restoring damaged teeth.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the lecturer recommended the adoption of this material, especially for people with high rates of decay, including children and groups most susceptible to decay, due to the high durability and strength it provides for fillings and dental treatments.
