Dr. Raja Al-Kannaany delivered a lecture titled “The Role of Science and Technology in Improving the Lives of the Deaf and Mute.” The researcher emphasized the importance of early and regular medical check-ups for children, carried out by specialized medical committees in schools, due to their crucial role in detecting and treating certain conditions at an early stage. She also explained that modern science and technology play an active role in facilitating communication for the deaf and mute, helping them integrate into society, education, the workplace, and institutions. Artificial intelligence, in particular, has had a significant impact on improving their quality of life through technologies such as: AI smart gloves that interpret and translate hand movements, The SignAll camera system, which converts sign language into spoken words displayed on screens during conferences and meetings, in addition to cochlear implants, speech-generating devices (SGDs), and modern hearing aids that reduce background noise.
