The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar on the integration of chemistry and dentistry, as part of a series of scientific activities aimed at enhancing the understanding of fundamental disciplines and their relationship to clinical applications.
The seminar highlighted that chemistry is the cornerstone of understanding materials and biological processes in dentistry. The integration of these two sciences contributes to improving the quality of treatment and its outcomes by understanding the structure of materials, chemical reactions, and how to select the most suitable materials for different treatments.
The seminar, presented by Assistant Lecturer Rana Hassan Abdul Majeed, included a discussion of the most prominent areas of integration between chemistry and dentistry, including: the design of materials used in dentistry; materials science and the chemical modification of metals, ceramics, and polymers; and nanotechnology and its applications in modifying surfaces and nanoparticles to improve the functional performance of dental materials.
The symposium concluded by emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation between basic and clinical sciences, given its role in improving treatment practices and developing materials used in the field of dentistry.
