The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held a scientific seminar entitled "The Role of Public Policy in Supporting Dental Health." The seminar addressed the mechanisms of health policymaking in Iraq and how the political system operates in formulating and implementing these policies, with a focus on the Public Health Law and its implications for dental health at the school and community levels.
The lecturer, Dr. Saeed Kadhim Ahmed, presented a range of statistics issued by the Ministry of Health, detailing the number of dental health centers in Iraq, the services they provide, and the level of government support they receive. He also presented data on the number of patients seen over the past two years, the ratio of dentists to the total population, and their distribution across health institutions.
The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of integrating the humanities, particularly public policy, into the development of the dental sector. This was achieved by raising awareness among participants about how health policies are formulated and their direct impact on the quality of services provided to citizens.
