As part of the program to develop scientific research skills for postgraduate students, the Microbiology Department at the College of Dentistry, University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled "Steps for Publishing in International Peer-Reviewed Journals," presented by Professor Dr. Salman Sahib Atshan.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with modern scientific writing techniques and introduce them to the foundations of rigorous research. It also aimed to enhance their skills in formulating research steps and avoiding common errors, thereby contributing to raising the quality of research among postgraduate students and researchers by developing critical thinking, the ability to find reliable sources, and the capacity for accurate data analysis.
The workshop also addressed the importance of understanding the mechanisms of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals, considering it an essential part of the academic journey. Publishing in prestigious international journals grants researchers credibility and recognition from scientific institutions and colleagues, and strengthens their applications for academic appointments, promotions, and performance evaluations.
The workshop emphasized that a strong research record is a crucial factor in securing funding and grants.
