The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “Oral Clinical Manifestations of Various Systemic Diseases.”
The lecture was attended by a number of faculty members and students.
Presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Shatei, the lecture addressed oral signs associated with diseases of various body systems, explaining that some changes appearing in the mouth may be the first indication of an underlying systemic disease.
The lecturer also presented several clinical examples, including: paleness of the mucous membrane and glossitis in patients with anemia; tooth erosion resulting from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or certain eating disorders; and gingivitis or bleeding in blood disorders.
Dr. Shatei explained that understanding these signs helps the physician in the early detection of systemic diseases and improves the accuracy of diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatment. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between dentists and specialists in various fields.
Dr. Shatei explained that understanding these signs helps the physician in the early detection of systemic diseases and improves the accuracy of diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatment. The lecture aims to raise awareness among students and dentists about the importance of oral manifestations as early diagnostic tools for diseases of body systems, and to enhance their ability to distinguish between local oral signs and those associated with general disease conditions.
