The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized a specialized training workshop entitled “Rubber Dam Isolation – The Use of Rubber Dams in Dentistry,” with the participation of fourth-year students.
The workshop aimed to enhance students' skills in using rubber dams in clinics and enable them to apply them correctly to ensure a dry and safe treatment environment that contributes to improving the quality of clinical procedures.
During the theoretical part, lecturer Batoul Basim Mounis highlighted the importance of rubber dams as an essential means of isolating the treated tooth from the mouth during filling procedures. She explained their role in improving material adhesion, reducing salivary contamination, and increasing the efficiency of work within the clinic.
In the practical part, lecturer Ola Mohammed Abdul Kadhim demonstrated the step-by-step procedure for using the dam, emphasizing that providing a dry and clean environment contributes to the success of fillings, facilitates the dentist's view, and prevents the swallowing of instruments. She also explained that the sealant is used specifically in composite fillings, root canal treatments, and delicate procedures requiring complete sealing.
This workshop is part of a series of training activities organized by the college to enhance students' skills and bridge the gap between theory and practice within teaching clinics.
