The Department of Earth Sciences at the College of Science organized a seminar on a stratigraphic and sedimentological study of the Haritha Formation in selected wells in southern Iraq. The seminar, presented by researcher Balsam Khalid, aimed to identify the dominant depositional environment of the Haritha Formation, clarify its vertical and horizontal variations between wells, and improve the chronological and stratigraphic framework of the formation. The seminar included an integrated stratigraphic and sedimentological analysis of the Haritha Formation in several selected wells in southern Iraq to understand the environmental and sedimentary evolution of the formation within a regional geological context. The study also revealed that the Haritha Formation was deposited within a marine carbonate environment of a ramp type, ranging between the outer sea and the open sea, with recorded marine deepening and regression phases associated with tectonic influences and marine oscillation. This integration of stratigraphic, sedimentological, and biostratigraphic analysis contributed to improving the chronological and stratigraphic model of the formation and clarifying the vertical and horizontal facies variations across the wells.
