A Master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, explored the use of paper waste in preparing fibrous cellulose materials mixed with nanoparticles for treating water pollution caused by dyes.
The thesis, submitted by student Hawraa Kadhim Abdul-Hussein, aimed to extract fibrous cellulose from paper waste and utilize it, along with its nano-mixtures of silver and zinc, as environmentally friendly biomaterials for removing dyes from polluted water.
The thesis concluded that paper waste can be disposed of by extracting fibrous cellulose from it and using environmentally friendly methods to prepare nanoparticles and mix them together as adsorbent surfaces for treating water pollution caused by safranin and crystalline violet dyes.
The study recommended the possibility of eliminating dye pollutants by using an environmentally friendly and sustainable approach through the use of cellulose materials isolated from discarded paper and nanomaterials manufactured using environmentally friendly and sustainable methods.
