A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, explored the bioremediation of water contaminated with petroleum and oily compounds using bacteria that produce the enzyme lipase.
The study, presented by student Zainab Qais Hamid, aimed to isolate and identify bacteria that produce the lipase enzyme from soil and water contaminated with oil and oil from various locations in Basra Governorate, and to improve lipase production by optimizing the environmental and nutritional conditions of the growth medium.
The thesis included the isolation and identification of bacterial species, the screening of lipase-producing bacterial species, and their use in treating oil and oily pollution.
The thesis concluded by clarifying the environmental role of these bacterial species and the extent to which environmental factors and nutrient sources affect the growth medium.
The study recommended further isolation of lipase-producing bacteria and investigating their potential for producing lipase enzyme.
