The Department of Earth Sciences at the College of Science discussed a master's thesis on reservoir pressure analysis in the West Qurna oil field, southern Iraq. The study, presented by researcher Mustafa Abdul-Hussein Abdul-Hassan, aimed to model and predict the bottomhole pressure (BHCP) of the Mishrif Formation in the West Qurna-1 (WQ1) field. It employed an integrated framework based on geostatistical methods, time series analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation to optimize pressure conservation strategies and guide future production and injection plans under conditions of geological variation and operational constraints. The study concluded that the integrated framework was robust and effective in reducing the cost of reservoir pressure management in complex calcareous systems. It recommends strategically maintaining and expanding water injection, with particular emphasis on low-pressure zones identified in the spatial prediction maps.
