
The University of Basrah has achieved third place among public universities in the 2025 Iraqi University Rankings, announced by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This ranking follows the evaluation of more than 100 public and private universities across Iraq.
The ranking, conducted by the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority, is based on the assessment of 103 educational institutions according to nine key institutional performance indicators. These include: institutional accreditation standards (15%), international rankings (10%), scientific research effectiveness (35%), sustainable development and green indicators (10%), assessment of the scientific and academic environment and compliance rules (5%), awards (5%), international diversity (10%), occupational health and safety and environmental protection (5%), and activities (5%).
The ranking results, published on the official website of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, demonstrate the University of Basrah's excellence and progress in scientific, research, and institutional performance indicators, reflecting its strong academic standing among Iraqi universities.
On this occasion, the President of the University of Basra, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, extended his warmest congratulations to all members of the university community—faculty, researchers, staff, and students—emphasizing that this achievement is the fruit of collective effort and institutional integration, and a testament to the university's ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of education and scientific research, and to continuing to achieve advanced rankings in national and international classifications.
