The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a course
entitled “Mechanism of Building a Genetic Tree Using MEGA Software.”
The course aimed to enhance scientific research skills and enable specialists to employ modern techniques in analyzing genetic relationships and advanced genetic diagnosis.
The course, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Fadel Nima Abdul-Razzaq, included comprehensive scientific topics, beginning with an introduction to bioinformatics, followed by practical training on mechanisms for retrieving DNA and protein sequences from the NCBI database and how to perform alignment using ClustalW and Muscle tools. The course also reviewed methodologies for constructing phylogenetic trees using Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Likelihood models.
