A research team from the Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah conducted a field visit to a date palm farm and a plant tissue culture laboratory owned by Dr. Hamed Al-Mousawi in Shatt Al-Arab District – Al-Fayhaa area, to review tissue-cultured date palm trees planted in permanent fields.
During the visit, the team examined the status of tissue-cultured date palm cultivation and the health condition of the trees, diagnosed certain disease infections, and discussed scientific methods to limit their impact and improve tree growth and productivity.
The visit also included the plant tissue culture laboratory, where the team reviewed the modern laboratory design and its facilities, as well as the equipment and technologies used in date palm propagation, contributing to the development and improved efficiency of micropropagation programs.
This visit comes as part of the efforts of researchers at the Date Palm Research Center to closely assess the reality of tissue-cultured date palm cultivation in the private sector, strengthen scientific cooperation, apply modern techniques, and conduct applied research that contributes to the development of the date palm sector in Basrah Governorate.
