The Cultural Center Holds a Scientific Seminar on the History of Human Rights
The Cultural Center at the University of Basra, in collaboration with the Center for Development and Continuing Education, held a scientific seminar on Monday, 21/12/2025, titled "The History of Human Rights from the Universal Declaration to the Present Day," attended by a number of academics, researchers, and those interested in human rights.
The seminar included two research papers that addressed the reality of human rights and their historical development, particularly in Iraq.
The first research paper was titled "The Importance of Human Rights and Their Applications in Iraq," presented by Lecturer Dr. Hazem Hamed Jabr from the Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center. He reviewed the basic concepts of human rights and their importance in building the state and society, highlighting the challenges facing their implementation in Iraq.
The second research paper was titled "The Historical Development of Human Rights and Their Success in Iraq," presented by Lecturer Dr. Naeema Lateef Abdullah and Professor Dr. Adel Hashem Ali from the College of Arts, Department of History. They discussed the historical stages of the emergence of human rights and the extent to which legislation and applications in Iraq align with them.
