The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on the study of the effect of secondary metabolites extracted from the Borago officinalis on some organs in male laboratory rats Rattus norvegicus. The study was conducted by graduate student Zahraa Hajim Abdul Qadir. The study aimed to determine the effect of secondary metabolites on some organs and included identifying the active metabolites of the borage plant, studying weight changes, histological studies of the liver, kidney, and intestines, and studying the biochemistry of liver enzymes. The study recommended conducting further studies to isolate the plant's active compunds, experimenting with different extraction methods, evaluating dosages and exposure duration, studying the histological effects on other organs, and conducting studies to reduce the toxic content of some compounds.
