The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held an awareness seminar entitled "Combating Violent Extremism in Light of Contemporary Digital Challenges." This seminar was part of the college's commitment to promoting intellectual awareness and instilling the principles of moderation and national belonging within the university community.
The seminar addressed several topics related to the concept of violent extremism and its intellectual and social causes. It also highlighted the rapid pace of digital transformation and the role of social media platforms in both disseminating and countering extremist rhetoric.
During his lecture, Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Mawzan pointed out that the contemporary digital environment represents an open arena for intellectual influence. This necessitates strengthening digital literacy among young people, developing analytical thinking skills, and reinforcing the values of dialogue and tolerance as effective tools in confronting extremism in all its forms.
The seminar aims to raise awareness among the recipients about the dangers of violent extremism in the digital space, promote the concepts of moderation and centrism, and empower young people with the tools of critical thinking and safe interaction with digital content, in order to contribute to building a safe intellectual university environment and a more cohesive and stable society.
