Professors Dr. Ahmed Naseh Ahmed Hamdan and Dr. Dina Yassin from the Department of Civil Engineering, along with PhD student Mays Ibrahim Al-Saidi from the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering at the University of Mosul, co-authored a research paper titled "Integrated Hydrological-Hydraulic Modeling for Flood Infusion Mapping and Risk Management in Data-Scarce Arid Watersheeds" in the journal Water Conservation and Management (WCM). This journal is indexed in Scopus and is ranked in the second quartile (Q2) of international scientific journals, with a CiteScore of 4.1. The research addresses hydrological response engineering in a data-scarce environment in southern Iraq (between the governorates of Maysan and Wasit), simulating the 2019 flood to re-evaluate the relationship between flash flood abundance and chronic water scarcity. Through advanced digital integration between ArcGIS and HEC-HMS software and HEC-RAS-2D modeling of a basin spanning 2945.33 km2, the volume of surface runoff was calculated and amounted to 144.4 million m3 of rainfall during the flood period, with scientific verification using Sentinel-2 satellite images. This model lays the strategic foundation for disaster risk management and converting wasted flood energy into sustainable water harvesting that ensures the region's water security.
