MA student, Ali Abdul-Hussein Waly Al-Jubori at University of Basrah, College of Agriculture, Departement of Horticulture and Landscape, defend his dissertation titled (Effect of antioxidants (α- Tocopherol and Acetylsalicylic acid) and method of application on growth and green yield of broad bean (Vicia faba L.) plants grown in southern Iraq).
The thesis presented by the student Ali Abdul-Hussein Waly Al-Jubori, included fifteen treatments consisting of a compatibility between five treatments, namely α-Tocopherol with two concentrations of 50 or 100 mg L-1 mg. L-1 and Acetylsalicylic acid at two concentrations of 50 or 100 mg per liter -1 in addition to the control treatment (distilled water Three methods of addition are: 1- Soaking the seeds 2- Soaking the seeds + spraying the plants 3- Spraying the plants. This study aims to evaluate the effect of the antioxidant Tocopherol-α and Acetylsalicylic Acid on the pea plant and determine the optimal concentration for them and the method of addition. α-Tocopherol and Acetylsalicylic acid led to improvement of vegetative and floral growth indicators, chemical components of plant leaves, increase of pods yield, yield of soft seeds, and improvement of its quality. It is recommended to use α-Tocopherol and Acetylsalicylic acid at a concentration of 50 and 100 mg L-1 each as a natural anti-oxidant for their important role in protecting plants from environmental stress and for being common, available, low-cost and environmentally clean drugs.
