Basrah - College of Pharmacy Media:
Faculty members Dr. Ban Mohammed Saleh Saeed and Dr. Shaker Abdul Salem from the College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Basil Abdul Zahra Abbas from the College of Veterinary Medicine, registered (15) new bacterial isolates belonging to the bacteria (Bacillus cereus) in the global GenBank.
The study included isolating the bacteria from food and diarrhea samples, and studying the genes responsible for resistance to tetracycline (an antibiotic) and virulence genes in these bacteria.
The study revealed that these bacteria are resistant to the antibiotic tetracycline; therefore, for the first time, chemical compounds were prepared and their efficacy and properties were studied as an antibacterial against these isolates.
