A doctoral thesis entitled "The Effect of Climate Change on Desertification in Iraq by Using Remote Sensitivity and Geographic Information Systems" was discussed in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems, College of Arts.
The thesis, presented by student Ahmed Ghazi Muften, included five chapters in which he dealt with the natural and human characteristics affecting the reality of desertification in Iraq and the change of climatic elements and their trends affecting the study area, applications of geographic information systems and remote sensing in monitoring the development of desertification in Iraq.
The thesis discussed the impact of climate variables on desertification in Iraq, using remote sensitization, geographic information systems, and global climate problems that pose a major threat to the environment.
The thesis concluded that the values of the trend coefficient for the rate of relative humidity % during the month of January for the period of the study (1970-2017) and that remote sensing technology is one of the effective tools in the process of evaluating the change in the use of the land and its land cover.
The thesis aims to know the amount of climate change and its direction that the rates of climatic elements have reached according to the climatic cycles such as solar surfaces, normal temperatures, wind speed and others.
